Why visit Mallorca?

Mallorca is a gorgeous island, close to Spain, with beautiful weather, stunning landscape and yummy food. The largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca is part of Spain but has a extra rugged landscape and high life quality. Majorca attractions, the topic of today.

The historic town of Arta is tucked into a valley that flourishes with almond, olive, and fig orchards. The mountains of Arta provide a lovely backdrop with the rolling hills extending into the distance. In fact, Arta derives its name from the Arabic word for “garden” (jertan). From the town’s parish church, the Iglesia de Transfiguracion del Senor, a cypress-shaded avenue leads up to the hilltop where a fortress and the Santuari de Sant Salvador (chapel) stand overlooking town. Tourists will enjoy splendid views; the scene overlooks the tightly packed red-tile roofs of the town and extends across the verdant landscape. Arta still has the remains of its ancient ramparts, which seem to dominate the town, and many palatial old houses, such as Na Batlessa, home to the municipal library. The town also has a Michelin-starred restaurant, Restaurante Andreu Genestra, on the Carretera de Palma a Manacor in a gorgeous setting with views of the countryside from the outdoor terrace.

The local people know each other well and like to stop for a chat with their neighbours. Visitors enjoy watching the daily routine, sipping a cafe con leche or a glass of wine on one of the many terraces on the square. The surrounding scenery, the light, and the atmosphere of the town seem to be made for creative people, and Santanyi has attracted many international artists over the years. Today art seems to play a central role and you can find many types of galleries and workshops in the narrow alleys of this quiet country town. Just off the market square, don’t miss ‘Sa Botiga’, a homely cafe which is well known for its German-style buffet breakfast. On the market days of Wednesday and Saturday, the narrow street outside is closed to traffic and the cafe also puts tables and chairs out onto the street so you can soak up the buzz and atmosphere. One of the most fascinating galleries is located directly on the main road: The Galeria Sailer. They offer a stunning selection of pre-Columbian textiles and antique Kalims, modern paintings, sculptures, and glass objects in a renovated townhouse dating back to the 17th century. Be it for the scenery, curiosity or interest in art, Santanyi is well worth a visit and the best time to go is when the market is in town. Enjoy a breakfast in one of the cafes and watch the continual coming and going of one of the nicest markets on the island. Take a look around the galleries or stroll around the market stands with their vast selection of curiosities.

What’s that saying? It’s the journey, not the destination? In this case, we definitely embraced the journey to get to this magical beach known as Calo Des Moro. It is one of the most photographed beaches on the island and we can totally see why! Directions for reaching here are somewhat difficult, but once you park the car, we suggest following the crowds towards the water. We took the road less travelled and managed to get to various viewpoints without any way of reaching the actual beach. After a whole lot of laughter, sweat and confusion we finally found the path we should have taken to begin with and before long we were floating in the most incredible waters that Mallorca has to offer. There are no facilities here nor large amounts of space to lay down a towel so come prepared to sit on the various rocks.
